Baby Vossler yawning (after a long 45 minutes of posing!)Our ultrasound appointment on Friday was absolutely wonderful. I can't believe I only get one this entire pregnancy! It's a terrible thing to do do a mother. Trei and I arrived 15 minutes early...I had drank my 32 ounces of fluid (24 ounces of water and 12 ounces of orange soda - wanted to make sure that baby was moving!). The 15 minute wait for my appointment was sheer torture. I had to pee soooooo bad!!! They finally called my name, and I got changed into a gown and waited for the tech. 2 minutes later she had joined Trei and I and had begun the exam. Luckily for me, she checked out my placenta....and let me relieve myself. I had thought I had to lay there the whole time with a full bladder. Thankfully, it was only for 30 seconds.
I walked back into the room and laid down for the "real ultrasound"...feeling MUCH better I might add. She squirted gel all over my tummy and laid the wand on my growing stomach. Immediately we could see the baby. We got a beautiful profile shot, I was amazed. About a minute later the baby rolled over and gave us the most beautiful shot of their "privates". I had studied lots of pictures wanting to make sure I'd know what to look for. But nothing prepared me for seeing it on the screen and knowing it's gender before the tech ever had to point it out....Now Trei....Trei needed some direction! Ha ha ha. I immediately began crying. It was so overwhelming that I couldn't help it. Watching Trei's face, seeing my baby - I was a blubbering mess (which I didn't expect!). My stomach would shake everytime I would try and catch my breath in between sobs. This in turn caused the whole screen to shake and the baby to move around even more. Once I was able to compose myself, Trei and I just sat there in awe. We finally "knew" whether we were having a son or a daughter. I can't really explain how amazing it was!

I'm involved in a baby bulletin board online called BabyCenter. I spend a lot of time in the December 2006 board. This board is for mothers expecting babies in the month of December. All of these women are either 2 weeks ahead of me, or 2 weeks behind me. I love reading about their excitements, or concerns, or questions. I never feel alone, because there is always someone who is going through the same things as me.
One of the most popular topics is Gender. Women want to know what they are having. There are many "gender predictors" out there. The Chinese Lunar Calendar, Wives Tales, The Ring Test, and even a site where a man claims he's been correct in 95% of his guesses. It's amazing the lengths women will go to, and how many really wonder if those methods are correct. It's quite comical actually. I decided to visit most of these sites, see what the "prediction" was for me, and post the results on the site....then maybe we can see how accurate they really are :)

Tomorrow is the day. Trei and I will walk into Hoag Imaging Center for our first ultrasound. As long as the baby is cooperating, we'll find out whether we'll be welcoming a son or daughter in December. What a crazy thought.
I'm still reeling from the entire idea that I'm going to be a mommy. At night, I sit on our couch and watch A Baby Story. I ALWAYS cry when they put the baby on the moms chest after delivery. I really stop breathing for a moment. I can only imagine the intensity of those first few moments. You wait 9 months for your baby. Talking to it, dreaming about it, thinking about it every single day and waiting for it. Then, one day it decides to arrive, and you go through labor - and at the very end they hand you this crying newborn who is completely dependent on you. You have no idea who it's going to look like, but you lock eyes and immediately you're in love. Forever your life is changed because you are holding your child, your future.
